Reader’s Question:
I was watching a suspense movie about the cops chasing guy all across America in a car, and I noticed that a lot of police cars were blowing up left and right. Now I know it sounds weird, but I got thinking: what would happen to your insurance if you keep on getting into accidents?

If the accidents keep on happening to you, without you being at fault, then you can just say you have some pretty terrible luck. But if you keep ramming into cars and into the windows of convenience stores, car insurance for high risk drivers would be the least of your problems.
First you’re going to get into legal trouble… really big legal trouble. You may have your driver’s license permanently revoked, and you may have to pay some serious fines, serve prison time, or do both.
Then if you’re allowed to get your license back (after heavy fines and stuff) you’re going to have to pay some pretty steep premiums for your insurance since you’re now paying rates matching car insurance for high risk drivers. The first accident where you’re at fault may raise your premium as high as 40%. Now imagine if you land yourself into two or three major accidents in the future.
Not only will you have to pay a steeper premium, but you may even not even be legible for insurance anymore since no insurance company would want to sign you up. Once that happens, you can kiss your driver’s license goodbye.
So there you have it: if you keep on getting into accidents, you’ll either pay some exorbitant fines and premiums, but you may even be refused for car insurance altogether. Neither are happy outcomes for any driver.
